I found this format a great way to read Shakespeare. The tempest, being one of my favorites of his plays, was an enjoyable read. I loved the illustrations of the characters, and thought the dialogue from the play used was well chosen. I highly enjoyed this read.

I am not quite sure what to rate this!

This is a manga/graphic novel retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest. I am not very familiar with the original work; I had a few classes in high school and college that veered into Shakespeare, and it was always quite the slog for me. Never something that I would pleasure read, that's for sure! BUT I picked up this version at a library sale since I like to grab up graphic novels that are different as something really different to read occasionally when I get the feeling to pick one up since they only take under an hour to read TOPS. This suited that need.

The art in this is good. It's not my favorite thing I've ever seen, but it was good and some of the pages had me lingering for an extra second to enjoy the imagery, which is something I look for in a graphic novel.

I'm still not 100% sure on the plot or what happened in this book. I think I got the jist of it though, haha.

If you like Shakespeare, I'd look into these because I think it's a very interesting concept! Or if you are looking for a really different kind of graphic novel to pass an afternoon with :)

I really liked reading the play as a graphic novel -- it helped me connect with the characters and situations better. But, I think something's missing (besides part of the text); I thought it was a pretty lame play until I sat down and read the introduction to it in my husband's Riverside Shakespeare.

In short: better than reading the play straight, but not as good as seeing it.
