Another engaging and intriguing story by Nelson and Alex DeMille. The character of Scott Brodie is so fun to read. I know that’s a basic and parochial description, but I’m always excited to read more of his exploits. Excellent storytelling, well-researched topic with layer upon layer of mystery, history, and relevant fears.

A complicated mystery with great history and current events with a can’t put down plot twist at the end that lept my heart rate up! Well done! Loving the team of Brodie and Taylor!

Not a worthy follow-up.
The characters are written quite poorly compared to The Deserter.
When we first met Scott he was a dedicated investigator who wasn't afraid to buck a few bad rules if they got in the way of good police work.
In Bloodlines, he's ampped up to loose cannon status with undiagnosed oppositional defiance disorder.
Maggie meanwhile, goes from being the level-headed rudder of the duo to being almost an afterthought. She adds little to the investigation, and little to the action. She is written in a way that I think is supposed to read as more assertive, but it's done in such a ham fisted way that it just makes her come across as impulsive instead of self-assured.
Not to mention the cast of one-dimensional supporting characters and all but mustache-twiriling Bond-tier uber-villains.
The plot is just lazy, being little more than a thinly veiled reskin of The Siege with Denzel Washington. Except they added one (predictable) 'twist' to ensure the 'sensitivity readers' would give them full virtue-signal points for giving their book a stunning and brave message.
