I wish this book wasn't so short. There is so much potential that is wasted on time jumping. I wanted to learn more about the griffin, the potions classes, the prophecy classes. I wanted to actually feel like I was at the school experiencing everything but instead we got 'told' how the classes are going as the time keeps jumping and jumping without actually learning much about the trials and tribulations that the recruits go through.
There was so much jealous, teenage angst in this book that it was just pathetic to read (whatever her face is, the 'mean girl'), and everything she tried to do.
I wanted more character development, everything was surface level. It needed to be better instead of always jumping to a part in the story where the MC faces a problem. I want to see her downfall and her struggles. She might be different but she isn't perfect.
She is 'special', she is 'unique', she is 'different'.
I get all that but other than when, she is just smooth sailing through everything. Blood, sweat and tears is a saying because it is genuine to life and it makes me believe the characters "exist" in this story.
I wanted there to be more connections with the characters. I did not feel much for the love interest and the MC other than attraction. There wasn't much to go on in my opinion to justify whatever they had.
Something that always bothered me when it comes to books with gods that are very well known in our world and have been around for many millennia, is when they start speaking like a twenty year old millennial. It just throws me off. I don't like it. Out of all the time the gods have been around, they all act like a bunch of teenagers? Cursing? Modern day lingo? It irks me.
And they smoke too??!
It basically reminded me of regular high school but people have powers and everyone is an emotional teenager.
This book was good in the beginning, I was excited to read it, in fact. But it was missing more. It was so close in my opinion.
It just needed a deeper dive into the actual plot and world building.

I loved this book! I loved the green god aspect of it so much. It reminded me of a more adult version of Percy Jackson but with more dangerous aspects. I absolutely loved the capture the flag games. I also love how the main character cares about everyone and not just herself. I cannot wait to continue the series!
