Are you looking for new horror recommendations? Don’t mind that you got too many after reading this? Check it out!

A big big thank you to my hubby for buying this book for me for Christmas! This was SO high on my list and I am so happy I could read it in January. BOY, it was so good!

I am a big horror fan and always looking forward to new reads to add to my TBR. This book seemed perfect, and it was perfect. The book is split up in various sections from Paranormal to Eco-Horror to Human Monsters to well more. And from there on you can pick your next category. For instance, I just LOVE a good haunted house so that is what I first wanted to explore (and I loved that it was split into Manderley or Hill House in regards to the hauntings), after that it was, naturally, cults. And from that point I just went back and forth between categories to find all my other favourites. I absolutely LOVE the recommendations and suggestions the author have. No really super mega popular ones, still plenty of authors that are known, but also some that are lesser known. Some more indie. It made me smile because I was expecting more popular stuff and was hoping to find some lesser known works. Instead I got a mountain of fun recs.

I love that with each book recommended we get a little intro, a little summary, and then some opinions on it + what you can expect. Plus, not just that you also get themes, tones, styles, settings, and publisher. Really handy if you want a quick view on what to expect.

The style of writing was really fun, the author really draws you into something they obviously love. I had just the most fun reading about her experiences with the books, but also her introductions to the various categories/sections were ones I loved reading. And then there are the author spotlights, those I enjoyed so much. Some authors I already knew, some I just knew a book from, and there were new ones.

I also enjoyed the essays that were dotted here and there in the book. Some more than others of course.

Oh, and I should mention the illustrations! Those were just SO fun and creepy and SCARY.

And yes, this girl is settled for a while with all these fun books! When I am in the mood I will be picking up this book, scrolling to a section I am into and then go to find a book and buy it! I already have a few that are HIGH on the list should I be in the mood so I cannot wait. Plus, my Halloween for this year, well I guess I won’t have to search much.

I do hope that the author will be releasing more books like this one. Maybe with older books? More manga (though I was happy to see Junjo Ito in there)? Some graphic novels (because there are some great ones)?

All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to all horror fans like me. It is fun, easy accessible and delivers a bounty full of horror to you.

do not read this book if you don’t want your TBR to grow exponentially. i absolutely loved this book, there’s is a helluva lot more than 101 book recommendations inside of it, and a bunch of authors to get to know and get their reccs too.
