I did not connect with any of the characters, did not care about the story, did not find the writing funny or interesting.

What do two military deserters, an ex-rebel, a minister of education, a runaway wife, and a displaced teen all have in common? Officer Chike becomes the leader of this ragtag band in a way he never was in the military. This group navigates the streets and rules of Lagos in an attempt to start fresh, but find themselves in the center of a political scandal. Onuzo tells a story of greed and corruption, but ultimately hope.

After Adichie & Obioma, I have been wary of picking up any book set in Nigeria for the heaviness they bring to my life once the novel is done. It takes me days to get back to a lighter state.
Onuzo's novel just turns that setup of pathos & hopelessness and delivers a fun caper of a 'family-of-sorts' of quirky individuals, who stay united despite their varied morals, ideals and ambitions.

Loved the prose, the crisp sentences conveying so much in a few words.

Now onto all her other works.
