All Dark Places is a small anthology of five horror stories by four different authors and these stories are darkly delicious!! Each author brings the reader a creepy story of darkness, demons, monsters, and magic! They hooked me into the story and literally left me begging for more.
The first story, Dark Secrets and Hidden Pasts by Hui Lang, is more of a dark fantasy story with unique characters and a dark goddess who demands payment for pacts made in the past. The twists, the creepiness…the author gives it all to you. But leaves you on a cliff wanting to know what happens next. This story was so fascinating that I couldn’t put it down.
The second story, The Cursed Mirror by Anna Sinjin, is just as dark and twisted but starts out more innocent. A happy couple, a promotion at work, and a chance encounter with a beautiful mirror. But then things begin to change. I loved the suspense in this story. The author lays it on just thick enough of where you find yourself literally on the edge of your seat. You want to know what happens next! The ending though! I wanted…NEEDED more!!
The third story, Once in a Lifetime by Simon Dillon, is probably the most tragic story of this entire anthology. A happy family, a strange encounter with someone from the husband’s past, and then everything changes. The mystery, the suspense, the strangeness of this story creates something unique. We as the reader quickly piece things together, but the character… The author twists this story so well, and the ending, for me, is heartbreaking. This story has more of a final feeling to it so I can easily say this story gets wrapped up in the end.
The fourth story, The Harrison Farm by A.M. Cummins, is a tragic and twisted story as well. The author once again gives the reader a happy family, growing, but happy. But quickly things begin to change. It’s suspenseful and engaging as you read the struggle of the characters. They know something is wrong, but the author begs the question…can they figure it out before it’s too late? I have to say once again this story gets wrapped up in the end.
Now! This final story and fifth story, The Mark of the Spider, also written by Hui Lang, is the one that certain readers should take care concerning. If you fear spiders, if they creep you out, give you the heebie-jeebies, or make you squirm…you may want to avoid this story. The Mark of the Spider is the creepiest of these stories and probably…the grossest, but I loved it! It is dark, twisted and just downright creepily awesome. Yeah, it made me cringe a little but I couldn’t get enough. This story ends on a HUGE cliffhanger and I really hope that the author writes follow-ups and gives me more.
I am an avid fan and reader of horror stories and I literally devoured these. They left me eager for more from these authors and I’m hopeful that I won’t be disappointed in the future. I am rating this anthology 5 out of 5 stars. If you love the dark, twisted, gory, creepy, and don’t mind cliffhangers then I highly recommend you grab this book up. You won’t be disappointed. This anthology of darkness is whispering your name…will come to it? Or will it have to come to you? Don’t be scared! It won’t bite…much.
