I enjoyed this the first time around. The second, in audio, was just as good

Audible version.

I started listening to this 10 months ago and just couldn't get all of the way through it. Somewhere around the 40-50% mark, my interest would drop off.

Forcing myself to make it through it all this month, I thought through what my issues were.

The narrator (Chad Maxwell) wasn't the right one to be reading this book. His voice was too much of a distraction to me.

I did really like the two characters - R'kos and Darien. I enjoyed all of the pieces and parts that involved the two getting to know each other. There were awkward, funny, sexy, and endearing moments between the two.

And then - well - everything else - the storyline of being chased across the galaxy - took away from my R'kos and Darien getting to know and enjoy you time. Had the book focused completely on the two of them, this would have come up on the high 4 side.

I might try to read the kindle version at a later time since son many people seemed to enjoy the book version. Maybe with the narrator out of the way, I'll like this book more.

With Alien 'n' Outlaw I had the exact opposite problem than with [b:Spice ‘n’ Solace|10324166|Spice ‘n’ Solace (Galactic Alliance #1)|K.C. Burn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1296088705s/10324166.jpg|15226596] - I liked the beginning, but had isses with the ending.

Content warnings include: violence, homophobia, misogyny, trans excluding language, sex on-page; mentions of abusive parent, child running away from home to live on their own.

This started out great as a human meets alien adventure romance.
The aliens were more humanoid that I would have liked but just alien enough to satisfy what I want from sci-fi books.
It helped that the alien culture was very different - except I could barely enjoy it, because Darien, the human character, was so uncomfortable. Which was my issue with the ending. I liked what was happening, but Darien didn't, which didn't make it enjoyable to read. I wish he had been more open to the new culture, even if I can understand his discomfort (like, I would be soooo uncomfortable in that particular culture too.)

It also felt like some threads of the plot were left unexplored and kind of fizzled out, with a vague "oh year we'll fix it" in a side sentence, which also wasn't very satisfying to read.

This was different, but not in a bad way. I really enjoyed the whole story and For such a short read it sure was packed. Lots of fun times and giggle moments. Even if it didn't quite reach the 5-star mark it really was worth every minute!

I totally finished this in one sitting! I loved it! R'kos was wonderful and Darien was awesome! Darien kept making me laugh with his inner monologues. I was cracking up! I loved the world this author created and want to read more but unfortunately I think there are only two books in this series. I like learning the differences between the two beings. I especially like learning more about the Ankylos! I love the imagination and creativity that was put into this! This was a great read! ♥♥♥♥♥

Fun and a little feisty. Read out of order. Didn't have the same depth or interesting plot as 3rd book, Voodoo. Overall it was fun, but I'm glad I read out of order as I don't know if I'd have continued with the series if I'd started with this.
