“What do you actually want from your life?”

This is one of those books that feels like it was written for me.

For all the girls who had a breakup with a best friend that you thought was your better half. For all the girls who survived their abusers. For all the girls who survived and still lost themselves. For those who know loneliness like an intimate partner. For all those girls who never found a way to connect their mind to their bodies.

For all those girls who just yearn for a community of other women, but have never fit in and are always left outside the intimacy - but don’t understand why.

This made my heart twist and was a dense amount of sadness, but also enough hope to keep moving through.

Ouch and wow.

you are a mammal !! reclaim your appetite !! the shape of your body is the least interesting thing about you !!

i really did love this book but i just wanted a more extravagant ending. if you like descriptions of food that are borderline horny this is the one.

i hate you arnold you know what you did

I wanted more supper club and less toxic relationships. Beautiful prose, but a little drawn out. Justice for Adnan.

Read it quickly and enjoyed most of it, feeling feels throughout. The themes felt very spelled-out , too much so in some parts. Author loves the word “languish”. It sort of felt like a better version of Conversations With Friends.

I struggled with the character’s relationship with her body—the descriptions of weight gain/fatness felt incomplete, like the author herself had never been larger than a size 8 and still has a lot of internalized fat phobia (I have no idea, fwiw). Her obsession with thinness made me tired.

The thread around female friendships, the push-and-pull of romantic vs platonic(ish) love, and the character seeking out moments of catharsis were what kept me engaged and invested. Worth a read, but didn’t quite meet my expectations.
