The Marquess of Wrenworth, Felix Rivendale, has a difficult childhood where his mother and father never show him any love. After his parents pass away, he decides that he will never make himself vulnerable and fall in love. He is drawn to Louisa Cantwell because he can tell that she is putting on a fake persona in order to find a husband. I liked the premise of this book, but the writing was too over the top and felt jarring at times. This is my first time reading anything by Sherry Thomas. The book was spicier than I expected. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of mathematics and astronomy. Louisa has always loved astronomy, and Wrenworth begins to teach her calculus. The ableist descriptions of Louisa's sister with epilepsy was terrible.

I never thought a book would make me so horny about learning math!!
This book is not for everyone but I REALLY enjoyed it. This is all character, no plot. Once these two get married the degree of tension between them and their inability to navigate a relationship carries the narrative, which would annoy some people but I found totally riveting. I loved Louisa, the way her ruthless practically gets so totally derailed by insatiable horniness is very relatable. And I thought Felix was a compelling hero - he kind of reminded me of Dain (Lord of Scoundrels) or other heros who are jaded because of a childhood wound to the psyche, but the twist that instead of taking pride in a bad reputation he has cultivated a (totally false) image of perfection was an interesting twist. If you want to read a romance with a bucket load of sexual tension and all internal conflict, this is a great choice!

I enjoyed this! I love fortune hunting turned real romance, and even though I usually REALLY dislike when the MMC spends most of the book lying to the FMC I didn’t mind it as much here. Maybe it’s because the FMC put him through the wringer as recompense instead of forgiving him right away. I do feel like it was kind of insta-lovey on the FMCs end and the ending felt quite sudden, which is what’s keeping me from rating it higher.

The way these characters talk to each other and think about each other is so magnetic. Basically erotic. More erotic than the sex scenes for sure!

"My lover, she repeated the words to herself. They had not made love, but that was an insignificant detail, given that he had probed her mind, both erotically and otherwise. And she, though she had yet to be unclothed before him, had certainly laid bare a great many of her naked desires."

The writing is absolutely gorgeous too.

This book is extremely character driven. It's basically just the two of them the entire time. I wish we had had some more detailed sexy times in the classroom at the end, and just a bit more time of them being happy.

Pregnancy is not experienced or sought after in this book at all, so good news for some readers!

Fun and enjoyable and a quick read! There’s some really pretty lines and dialogue, and the leads are interesting enough.

The book is pretty condensed with it’s story needing to be drawn out more to let the characters and narrative breathe. That said, the concept is good enough that you might not mind it’s pacing much.
