I picked up this title after seeing it recommended on one of my FaceBook reading groups. I downloaded it as a fluffy vacation read, and I found it delightful! It is a cross between a CSI detective show and Fifty Shades of Gray, minus the toxic masculinity. I found it delightfully entertaining, a little steamy, and a perfectly entertaining fluffy read. Sometimes I found the dialogue confusing and couldn’t exactly follow who was speaking. But I have come to learn that Eve and Roarke are featured in something like 50 additional novels by this author (who is Nora Roberts under a pseudonym), so I imagine the author gets better at dialogue with more practice LOL. I am happy to sprinkle those other novels into my TBR list for some easy escapism down the line.

If I had a nickel for every detective series I've tried who's opening book features a gruesome death that happened in an unpleasantly sexual setting, a sudden slap of bad romance, and women with internalized misogyny, I'd have two nickels.

Which is not a lot but it's disappointing to have happen twice.

Where Naked In Death's comparison to Dresden File's Storm Front ends is the less endearing characters and the bodice-ripping. Eve's love interest is an aggressive schmuck of a stalker, taking away from what could've been a middling, albeit predictable, mystery. I could've had a better time following the therapist or the captain.

Lastly, the third person omnipotent perspective was jarring.

I didn't think I'd like it, but this near-future, cop mystery, romance was exceptionally good. I'll definitely read more.

I enjoyed the police story that takes place in the near future.

I’ll add that I’m not used to reading bodice-rippers, which this also was. The hot, er, romance stuff was a bit corny, but oh my, what’s not to like about a hunky billionaire with an Irish lilt and a passion for a New York cop? “Romantic suspense” is the genre. Go figure.

Three cheers to an unenhanced, independent woman. What’s amazing to me is that this series goes on and on. I just might read the next one.

Given that this is the first in a VERY VERY long line of "In Death" books, I didn't want to go too high with my ratings, but loved it! Nothing like a good serial killing escapade to pique my interest. Highly predictable characters, highly predictable outcome, but it still sucked me in enough to finish in less than a day.

Roarke is fascinating - sort of reminded me of the mysterious Ranger from the Janet Evanovich novels, and I love him as well. Lt. Eve? Adore her - feisty beyond words and with a focus that I could only dream of having (most of the time). I will be beyond curious to see what is in store for this pairing through the multitudes of books that will follow.

Thanks so much, Nora Roberts, for signing me up to avoid all signs of responsibility in the months ahead as I devour the other books in this series!

I read this one way back in the 20th century, and at the time, I didn't like the sci-fi aspect. I also didn't like a "strong" female character who was willing to sleep with a suspect and make excuses for a male love interest. I believed a woman should never let a man make her defy her own moral code. But here I am 25+ years later, and I find those aspects of this book didn't bother me anymore. I'm now more interested in believable characters in interesting stories. This definitely fits the bill. I'm ready to read the remaining 59 installments.

Rereading from the first. It is a great start to this now long going series. Reading through again I forgot how many characters that make appearances throughout most the series had their first appearance already in book 1!

Love these books, little bit of mystery, little bit of romance. A bit gritty and gruesome.
