Out of all of the books I have read in my life, I have two of them and their audiobooks on repeat. They've become soundtracks to my life; comfort on dark days, something to fall asleep to when I can't stop thinking, the stories I will shove down everyone's throat to say "This is how you'll get to know me. These words are of my soul, read them and you'll understand me." The first one is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, the second one is this book.

At the risk of sounding overly sentimental and pretentious, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (as with the rest of Becky Chambers' other work) feels like the best hug you'll ever get in your life. Full of humanity, acceptance, love, and perseverance - The Long Way teaches you more about yourself and who you are as a person. I have had this as a favourite book since January 2019, and each time I read it, I discover something new about myself.

I won't say how many times I've reread this, mostly because I lost the count around the 30th time, but it holds up and gets better and better with each time.

What a wonderful story to start the year! Loving found-family with small and high stakes conflict throughout, and lots of heart.

great cast of characters of all species skipping across the galaxy. a little scattered story wise at times, but over all, saved by authentic and funny characterization.

It takes a good while for the book to pick up speed, but the final third is sensational, and hits as hard as it does due to the time spent with the characters in a casual way. Phenomenal character work throughout, very consistent and believable worldbuilding. I’ll probably come back to the series later on down the road.
