What I Did Like:
+The very first short story in this collection sets the tone well. It’s dark and scary. It leaves some things unanswered, as short stories often do, but it’s intriguing and works!
+All tied together by being set in the fictional town of Samhattan. Side Note: Malerman mentions Samhattan and the development of these stories in the author’s note at the end of the book. Take the time to read that because it’s fascinating. Also, I wholeheartedly agree about the hotel angle for a show. Great idea!
+The stories are a great blend of horror. Some almost jump scare, some sort of slow and languid, some that are absolutely disgusting in their inability to stop at a boundary line. As far as horror goes, there’s a little something in this collection for every horror fan!

Who Should Read This One:
-Horror fans. This is a great collection with a little something for all of us fans of the scary and macabre.

My Rating: 4 Stars

This was disappointing but I’m not generally a fan of short story collections.

The first 4 novellas were decent.

Sadly the final story Egorov didn’t appeal to me and was about 30% of the book.

I didn’t really like the stories. Some of them were pretty good but there were no conclusions. Just big questions left unanswered. Couldn’t get through the last story.

I mean I feel like I should congratulate myself because I finished this book….
This collection of novellas couldn’t seem to hold my attention. Each one I found dull….. and the twists weren’t really there
The first is about two kids that grew up in a house that is half haunted as per the eldest, she talks about it all the time terrifying her younger brother.

The second is about a man who explains that he lived life with the mind of a serial killer and tortured himself by not acting on those impulses.

The third is about a house washer, a machine that cleans the entire house while the owners are stuck in a plastic tube, and what happens when the couple is forced to be that close that long.

Fourth was about a gentleman that travels to Jupiter to get dropped down onto its surface to live a couple of months and enjoy the landscape.

Last there was the story of a Russian family whose son was killed….. on of their triplets that look so alike even their family can’t tell them apart.

Idk I found each story to have fallen short. I couldn’t get into it at all, which is sad because I have heard such great things about this author.
