I found this a really readable collection. I liked how the stories were laid out, with some connecting, some completely separate, and one long one running throughout.

these stories centre on trans women and their experiences. it was raw and honest. these characters felt real, complex, and I enjoyed following them through their journeys.

a fine short story collection centering on the experiences of trans women. however, the narratives were sometimes difficult to distinguish from one another due to how similar the protagonists were to one another throughout the collection. felt way too similar to "a safe girl to love" in both plot and style to be truly wowed.

I enjoyed the complexities of the various trans characters. It’s nice to understand their experiences embodying their trans mess in relation to the rest of the world.

Casey Plett creates such beautiful characters. This is the kind of book that makes my face hot and my bones hurt. I cried on a crowded L train in a way that I haven’t since reading Little Fish. 10/10

I wanted a book that I couldn’t put down and this was it. Casey Plett has such a singular voice. Her characters are so raw and real and lovable. She is always surprising. Just a gorgeous book.

Off to read more Plett! These stories were great, even the longer ones seeming to fly by—she knows how to hook you. Hazel and Christopherrrrrrrr :( and Obsolution stood out but I couldn’t pick a bad one; a great collection!
