Another volume with lots of Yuki and little Tohru or Kyo. Much of this book focuses on Machi, Yuki's friend from school. Like the rest of the character in this book, her life has been a sob story. She's suspected of trying to kill her little brother. Not true at all. She adores her baby brother. Her parents are convinced that she's horribly jealous and is a monster of a girl. When they saw her placing a blanket over the baby, they assumed she was trying to smother it.

It's interested that Takaya-san goes out of her way to villainize every parent in this series. The only adults that are portrayed positively are Tohru's mother and those adults without children. I wonder why.

The second half of the book is about Rin. If Takaya-san was worried that the reader would pity Akito too much after his/her story was revealed in Volume 17, Volume 18 corrected that problem. Akito nearly killed Rin. He was furious that Rin had the gall to love Haru and that Rin tried to take his beloved treasure box.

The end of the volume was fabulous. Tohru passionately declares her fear that Kyo-kun will be lost if the curse is not broken. Takaya-san does a great job drawing Tohru's anguished fear.

Ok the curse really means nothing negative to me anymore, it could be a fine thing if the family didn't create the most toxic environment possible.

I have read the cute, heartbreaking story of Fruits Basket years ago. And I read it about 3 or 4 times, maybe more. The story is a bit cliche, but the characters are memorable.

A story about closed off loners that broken, depressed and sad individuals hoping for a happiness they could never achieve. Each characters deals with the pain and loneliness differently, learning how to embrace happiness and bloom into individuals they never thought they could be.

Its beautifully written, heartwarming, with relatable emotions anyone can feel. This is one any manga avid reader should go through at least once. A classic that should honestly be recommend by anyone.

Do I recommend it:

SpoilerI thought that the scene where Yuki snaps the chalk for Machi after their talk about how she can't stand perfection is sooo cute. Motoko Minagawa has a conversation with Yuki about her feelings. I think it's interesting that she loved him but didn't really seem to have any expectation of a relationship ever happening. Apparently Nao from the student council had a crush on Motoko, and he confesses to her as well. Hiro's little sister Hinata is born. It turns out Rin has been imprisoned by Akito. Akito's mother Ren is nuts. Tohru reveals the depth of her feelings for Kyo to Shigure and Rin.
