I found a .pdf version of this book on the internet. Usually, I can read .pdfs on my kindle, but not this one. I had to read it on my telephone.

Anyway, this is the second of the Silver Chief adventures. As I mentioned in my "review" of the first Silver Chief, these books were favorites of mine when I was a kid back in the Eisenhower years.

In this book, a small outpost is suffering by an outbreak of a deadly disease, perhaps typhus. I don't fully remember. It seems that all is lost, when Sgt. Jim Thorne of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police charges in with life-saving serum. Getting there was only possible, of course, because Sgt. Thorne's dog sled team was led by Silver Chief, the magnificent half wolf, half husky that Sgt. Thorne caught and tamed in the first book.

They have some other adventures after they save the outpost. In particular, Jim and Silver Chief are adopted by a puppy, Mikey. They also track down and re-capture the notorious half breed, Joe Laval. Someone they had captured in the first book.

I dunno, it seemed this book was even sillier than the first one. But still, I'll likely move on to the third book in the series. I actually have a dead-tree copy of it on one of my book shelves. It seems that we "rescued" it from the library in the New Hampshire town where I found my spouse some fifty-five years ago.

This is really a ***+ book, i.e. better than a mere ***.
