This book isn't for me. I could tell that on page one. I'm just so bored and don't care abut main characters at all.

i liked the plot, it started well... but then i got a bit bored
some parts annoyed me, and i noticed the conversation about teagan’s virginity happened twice... which says a lot. first that the author REALLY wanted that scene in (rolling my eyes so hard at the obsession people have with a girl’s virginity, even when she’s not a virgin, you get the name of the boy she lost her virginity with, how many times she did it and such) and that no one paid attention enough to write one of the scenes out of the book ???

i didn’t like teagan relocating to england to be with caleb either, but it has more to do with the fact thay it’s the THIRD book in a row in which a woman drops pretty much everything for a man who doesn’t have to do much in exchange. (it was not on purpose)

Caleb and Teagan

Caleb Yates, 22, Teagan Carroll, 19, friends to lovers
Sweet love story however it didn’t seem to hold my attention most of Miss Wards books do. This one seemed like it was written by a different author.

I'm giving this a 1 star because I did enjoy the beginning when he was sorta teasing her.
So I thought I was going to enjoy this book but didn't really finish it (stopped at ch 5) because he kept on flirting with her and also being in a relationship with another girl.

One year and so much love!

I'm still starry eyed, heart shaped glasses, dripping with love swooning. So I guess I beed to pre-apologize for the loved up stuff coming out of my mouth (read typing).

Just One Year is not enough. Every hopeless romantic will tell you they need forever. Penelope Ward knows that too because its not JUST anything. (Also its a bit longer than a year!

There were a lot of super cute moments in this story, as well as some emotional ones. I loved all of that. There were some really over the top and unbelievable things too, though...some toward the beginning and some toward the end. And some of those things almost made me want to stop reading. Almost. There was more good than bad, so I'm glad I kept going. I did like how it all turned out. I just don't know if I believe wholeheartedly that it would have gone that way. Maybe I'm just being weird. I hate stories that don't have HEAs. And I'm not saying this one shouldn't have had one. I guess I just feel like a portion of it was far fetched... parts like Teagan's parents being totally okay with her moving to England and quitting college without so much as a serious talk about it. And also her coming across a long lost sister who was abandoned in the exact same way she was, only in England instead of Boston. It just doesn't seem realistic. That's why I only gave 3 stars on this one. Writing was good. Story was good. But those things bothered me to the point that I'm listing them in a review. Just personal opinions. Go ahead and give it a read, anyway. You may feel differently, and it's still a cute story.

I am a huge fan of Penelope Ward. I love her books and her characters and read anything with her name on it. So I couldn’t wait for her newest standalone Just One Year. I enjoyed this book, but at the same time it wasn’t my favorite of hers. For some reason, it felt different than what I have come to know and expect from her.

While I liked the characters, I didn’t love them or connect with them as much as I would have liked. Their story was good, but it wasn’t one that had me staying up late to finish it and it was easy for me to put down and come back to later.

I think for me, something was missing here and I’m not really able to put my finger on it or say what it was but i’m sure it was me personally rather than the story itself. There were times that the dialogue felt a bit on the cheesy side and there wasn’t as much angst or urgency like I normally feel in her books. While this one might not have been all that I had hoped for, it was still a good read and I think readers will enjoy it. Penelope Ward is still one of my favorite authors and I am looking forward to her next solo book as well as her co-authored book. You can’t go wrong with any of her books, so I recommend giving this one a shot.
