Entertaining, often funny account of a journalist in middle-age crisis mode, and full blown mini-depression following the not-so-friendly, but very permanent leave-taking of his younger wife. In a moment of alcohol-induced insanity at his firm's Christmas party, hw proclaims to all and sundry his intention to take off for a six month ride around Europe on a motorcycle. Not a bad idea, in my mind, but a bit more probloematic for him since he doesn't own (or know how to ride) a motorcycle. He doesn't even remember making the announcement, but it rapidly becomes clear (from sotto voce comments by his colleagues in the hallways next day) that he is stuck with his commitment. As it turns out, he has a generally good time on the trip, learns a few things about himself, and gains a bit of maturity in the process. Might have happened sooner, and less dramatically, if he weren't prone to solving his problems with a bottle...

A divorce and a mid life crisis gives Mike the idea of this journey around Europe on a motorbike.

Just a couple of problems to start. No bike, and no bike licence. Time and money solve this problem, and he sets off. h manages to travel all the way round Europe, from the very north of scandinavia through Bosnia and down through Italy and Spain.

Quite enjoyed it, he was definitely suffering from the divorce and mid life, and does the odd foolish thing. but nothing too stupid.

Like motorcycle travel books, then give it a read.
