I have always loved Egyptian history and you can tell this book was well-researched! However, I would have to agree with many other reviews that it had a LOT of educational material and it almost overshadows the main storyline. I still enjoyed the book, I just wish it had more going on with it. Since I listened to it on audiobook while I was multi-tasking, it's possible that I might have missed something for an even deeper meaning of the material, but ultimately it was just a fun read and not much more.

2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.

Book is third person POV written both in past and present tense (because it jumps back and forth in time).

I really liked this book- I felt it was a little heavy with all the Egyptology info. It was beyond my thought process! The story line was great but so ambiguous! I laughed and cried- and now am trying to grasp the ending! There is no ending!!! What??? I read the author’s note at the end of the book. Jodi mentions that “this book had a very different ending”. Anyone know about that?

I wanted to love this book but I couldn’t get into the storylines. Aside from merit, i didn’t find the characters interesting or lovable. It was a tough read for me.

Interesting story structure, especially once you discover the “twist”. Overall, though, somewhat boring story. I would have abandoned it had I not been listening to it over a 10 hour car ride.

I really enjoyed the idea behind the book and flew through the first half, but the second half really dragged and I got less and less invested in the story.

Interesting subjects (Egyptology, death doulas, physics), interesting timeline that took me by surprise, quick and entertaining read, not a clear cut ending, and not really sure how I feel about it.

  • Too much info dropping. Lots of telling instead of showing
  • Plot dragged too much
  • Was not invested in the characters
  • I felt throat punched with themes of death

Amazing as almost all of Jodi’s are! I loved the idea of alternate planes within the universe and it definitely had some Dark Matter vibes!
