I read 143 out of the 179 pages of this book.
What I liked about it: a quote that stood out to me on page 79 that will become a huge part of my inner narrative from now on, the strength of the author both during her story and while sharing it, how certain passages and chapters were engaging, and how she wrote the triggering scenes in a detached way that allowed the reader not to experience the trauma but still be aware of it.
Why I didn't give it a higher rating: it reminded me too much of others books, I found myself wondering (too often) what I will get out of it, not enough seemed to change or evolve in her life or in her person, and I felt like necessary details and insights were omitted.
Do I recommend it? Yes, to readers who enjoy memoirs.

Tragic insight into the life of a yakuza daughter and how cruel men can be.
Even if they say they love their partner.
I had hoped for more insight into the life of a yakuza or clan dynamics.

The review I read about this led me to believe this was going to be far more interesting than it was. I expected to have more detail about her tattoos and the meanings behind them. Mostly the book chronicled hertragic youth. It was an easy read but not all expected it to be.
