Ugh! bad luck with audiobooks this week. Plus, who edited this? I was having fun until everything that could have taken about 3 sentences took about 50 and I can't speed this thing up fast enough.
Slightly entertaining, could have used a better reader. I do love a Cinderella story.
Edit a few hours later:
Whoo-boy. This is pretty terrible. The beginning was somewhat promising, but it's really quite depressing and ridiculous. I think that's the point the author is trying to get across--the ridiculousness of fame and gorgeousness... but seriously, the point was beaten to death with a baseball bat two hours ago.
Abandoned!

According to the author, everyone who reads this book is impossibly gorgeous. :)
This was a comedy, satire, romance type of book. It was a feel good, helarious romp. I wanted to get this book ever since I saw it in Entertainment Weekly. My library never got it in, and finally upon seeing it as an ebook on Google Play for like 2.34 or something I was like, "O yay! Let's go ahead and just buy this." I may eventually buy a paper copy because I just adored this. A few bad reviews had me worried, but I just think they didn't get it. Because this book is coming from a specific direction, and you either will adore it and totally get it and laugh your head off.. or just be lost and think it's stupid, meaningless prose.
Becky Randle's mom dies, and she decides to sojurn to NYC to meet the end all, be all of designers of everything, Tom Kelly. Tom proceeds to make her 3 dresses that make her the most gorgeous, stop traffic, stunning, etheral woman to ever have lived. Becky, now Rebecca, learns more valuable lessons then one can count, and goes through alot to finally get to her last dress and her ending.
This book was so seriously entertaining that I took my time with it. Every line was just a freaking joy to read... I don't remember the last time I enjoyed the actual act of reading something so much. Rocher is a riot.. I love her. I loved the Prince. I loved Jate. I loved Tom. I loved Becky. Never before has an author type cast yet made characters so individual that I can recall.
I say everyone needs to at least check this out to see how they feel. Hopefully you can be like me and add it to your top 10 list of all time (YEAH.. I liked it that much I think). I dare you to not laugh til you cry, feel inspired, and learn something new about yourself and about life.
Thank you to the author for writing this. It may very well have changed my life in some small way.

I will say the voice actor was great for this book, which is probably one of few reasons I was able to get through it. The majority of the time I was listening to this audio book I often asked myself, "WTF am I reading?!"
The first few discs the writing is just bad. The dialogue is bad, the beginning is just bad. Then suddenly the writing improves when Jate Mallow shows up, but the plot continues to become more and more inane. Becky's inner thoughts become more and more narrated to the point where it was painful. It was like Rudnick was dragging it out on purpose to hit a word count.
I also never liked Becky as a character. I don't think she really grew up or learned anything. I also don't believe the romance. The chemistry between her and Prince Gregory was a -5. They met 4 times, and he's asking her to marry him? Ridiculous. It was also obvious the British monarchy in the novel was modeled after Princess Diana and her sons, to the point where Princess Alicia is photographed among diseased people in Africa and dies tragically early in a crash.
Tom Kelly is a tool.
The only character that made up for this novel is Rocher. I honestly would have preferred Rocher to have undergone the transformation, as she was at least a hell of a lot funnier and more interesting. Becky was a snoozefest.
The idea was great, the execution sucked, but I stuck with it for a reason. I wanted to know what was going to happen in this very ridiculous book. Between that, the gorgeous cover, Rocher, and a few lines that made me laugh aloud, I give it 2 stars. Barely.

I'm not really sure how to begin to describe this book. It has humor and mystery and romance but not in the stereotypical YA way that is so popular right now. There's a magical element but I would never call it fantasy.
It's beautiful and honest. It's a perfect metaphor for growing up, growing out of that high school obsession with physical beauty and growing into the person you will be as an adult.
I'm not sure who to recommend it to...just someone looking for a good story that can be totally ridiculous one moment and then down to earth the next.

this is one of my favorite books of all time i would read and reread it so many times as a kid omfg i'm due for a reread as an adult w critical thinking skills soon
I just finished this book, and all I thought was, "Meh."
I was excited to read this, and it had moments of brilliant snark and good writing, but the story itself was kind of slow and too over the top. (I think a more real-life approach would have made this story more relatable.) This book revealed too much too soon and there wasn't much to keep me invested as the story progressed.
I did like the concept, though. It was original and enough to keep me reading to the end.

This book was pretty silly but overall just good fun. I would watch the hell out of this as a tv show or movie though.
I have no idea how to classify this book but it was awesome. The Becky/Rebecca dynamic and how Tom Kelly plays such a twisted role in her life. This book was well-written and kept me turning the page, wanting to see where life would next lead Becky and her best friend.
I loved the epilogue as well. It gave us closure for Becky but at the same time I was left with good mysterious feelings about her mom and Tom Kelly.
AMAZING READ!
This book is featured on my Top 20 list for 2013 on my blog.

Loved it! Hilariously funny! I haven't laughed out loud so much since I read Georgia Nicholson. It just got funnier as it went along. Highly recommended for teens who like to laugh.
Gorgeous is a book that is enamored with itself. The writing style is designed to be so clever, so unattainably witty, that you just can't help but admire how many metaphors and clever jabs of descriptions the author is able to jam-pack into one sentence. It is a book that wants to be several things at once: a cutting critique of the cult of celebrity and beauty; an insider's view on what it's like to be the most elite of the pack; an examination of the morality of worshipping beauty and denigrating those who do not fit society's standards; a fairy tale on twenty-first century acid; and a love story.
Ultimately, though, Gorgeous fails to be all those things. It is too light and fluffy and air-headed to be a real critique of celebrity, too wrapped up in its own beauty to be an actual examination of the morality of worshipping beauty, too contemporary to actually encompass the fairy-tale it is birthed from, too serious to be all-out escapism, and too stupid to be a love story worth cheering for. It has its moments, and they made me laugh. After all, it really is quite a clever writing style. But it is not a clever book. It is neither awful nor wonderful; it's not ugly, but it's certainly not gorgeous.
