A decent mystery focused on Frank Bennett, the Police Chief in tiny Trout Run, NY, a small Adirondack town. A local woman dies from complications from a secret birth around the same time that the leader of a national conservation group is murdered near town. Bennett begins to unravel the reasons why Mary Pat gave birth in secret, and apparently gave her baby to an illegal adoption group. While the State Police are working on the murder investigation, Bennett comes up with more questions than answers about who exactly is running the baby selling scam and whether it's connected somehow to the murder.

Police Chief Frank Bennett of Trout Run investigates when Mary Pat Sheehan dies from complications of childbirth, complicated by the fact that no-one in town knew she was pregnant. That is when he discovers a black market adoption business in the area.
An enjoyable well-written mystery
