It surprised me...

I was a huge fan of the Shifter series, but when I read the synopsis for Abby's short story, I was skeptical. I'm older than I was when I read Faythe's stories and I wasn't sure I could relate to Abby but I was pleasantly surprised. This spinoff series is fresh and entertainment. Jace has always been a favorite of mine and he didn't disappoint. I'll definitely be reading the next book in this series.

It is with sincere gratitude that I write this review. Reading Lion's Share was like going to a family reunion with the characters from the Shifters Series. There are some characters I still don't like (Blackwell for one), but others (those of S Ranch) are just awesome. It is the way that the author writes that allowed me to form such strong feelings. Feelings, so strong, that I was furious when the original series ended. The series was enjoyable without going overboard. I read the books over and over, never getting bored. This book is the same way. In fact, after reading this book I went back and read the others again causing the delay in this review. This is a spin-off involves Abby, one of the few tabbies in existence, and Jace, the Appalachian temporary alpha. They are both strong determined people with unique struggles. It is their strength and dedication to others that makes this story work. The author created honest, real characters without the added "fluff". Secondary characters followed the same pattern. At no point did I feel the need to skip over parts of the story. It didn't have scenes that were out of place or unnecessary. If you want a lot of sex scenes then this book is not for you. If you want a book with characters that are believable and storylines that make sense then pick up this book and start reading. I can't wait for book two to be released. But next time I will read the other books first. They deserve to be read again and again.

I absolutely loved the shifter series and this book is a wonderful start to the spinoff series! I love Jace and cannot wait to read more about the strays!

This wasn't bad, it was simply a mediocre, mindless read. And I was looking for mindless, so that's good.

That being said, this is insta love. And it's hard to create insta love when the two main characters have known each other for years. But of course, one shiny day, everything changes and he suddenly can't live without her. Woohoo.

I was also so annoyed with Abby. What did you THINK would happen? How did she thinks this would work? And she kept railroading Jace! Don't throw the man you love under the bus when you should've just been honest with him from the get go *sigh*.

It's very apparent that there are previous books (the Shifter series) unfortunately I haven't read them so I found it quite confusing- I think I was expected to know more of the background and more of the characters. If you've read the Shifters series I imagine this is fairly similar if you haven't you'll probably be confused.

I found the characters and plot predictable. I tried the previous series but I found myself disliking Faythe so I only read Stray- Abby is a lot more likeable than Faythe and this book doesn't have the love square that annoyed me so much in Stray. Abby is still irritating though, she seems to make decisions that make it as difficult as possible for herself.

I also don't really like the premise of so few female shifters- creating such a gender imbalance seems to give the books a sexist undertone- the females only job in the eyes of many of the shifters is to pop out babies, even the more 'modern' female shifters who try to be more independent still pop out the little ones. (also the numbers don't make sense to me- at one point the characters say it's usual for the females to have about 6 or 7 babies with one being a female and at another point we are told that there is a gender imbalance of dozens of males to one female, I might have missed something but that doesn't make sense to me)

Abby was beyond annoying. And I didn't feel the chemistry between Jace and her at all. Didn't come close to the chemistry Jace and Faythe had, if only for a short period of time in the Shifter series, but I had expected more considering this is Jace we're talking about.

I still love all things Rachel Vincent, but this is my least favorite :(

aaah it felt so good to get back to a universe that made me so happy before. It was good to see Jace again and get to know Abby. It felt like going back to friends or visiting family.
