Catch up with Ethan, Lena, and Link as they finally graduate from high school and get ready to leave the small Southern town of Gatlin. But when Dark Caster Ridley makes an appearance, the sometime bad girl can't resist picking a fight with her sometime boyfriend, Link. Angry and rebellious as ever, Ridley ends up alone in New York City and becomes entangled in the dangerous underground Caster club scene, where the stakes are high and losers pay the ultimate price.

Where's a Linkubus when you need him?

I received this book via Netgalley back in 2013. I read the Beautiful Creatures series at the beginning of 2013 so when I saw this on Netgalley I had to request it.

This book is the prequel to the new series Dangerous Creatures. I think that it links the two series. It begins at graduation which after everything they went through in the previous books its a miracle that Lena, Ethan and Link even made it here.

This book is more about Ridley than the other characters and it sets the scene for what's to come. I enjoyed this little story and now I really want to read the other books in the series.

Review Taken From The Pewter Wolf

This is a prequel novella for the new spinoff series based in the world of the Casters. That's right, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl are back together. So they are not only writing their own series but this new series - the Dangerous Creatures series - the first book should be out sometime in May, if I got my info right.

So, set after [b:Beautiful Redemption|19294074|Beautiful Redemption (Beautiful Creatures)|Margaret Stohl|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1386528761s/19294074.jpg|27342727] (if you haven't read the Beautiful Creatures series, SPOILERS AHOY!), the story is told from three points of view. Ethan has the first part (BEFORE), Link has the second (AFTER) and then Ridley has the third, final and longest part (AFTERMATH). And through these three parts, we see a summer. A summer where Link tells Ridley that he loves her. And we see Ridley reaction to this and see her do something, that us readers know that sooner or later, she is going to regret...

This is very much a "set-up" story. This new series is going to follow Link and Ridley in New York City and this sets up how/why they both go there. And, from the looks of it, Dangerous Creatures might be told from Ridley's point of view (this is from the sneaky peek of Dangerous Creatures - and we all know that she is one of those!) so that's going to be interesting to read about her - as a character says in Dangerous Dreams, "she's her own worst enemy, yet her own best friend".

I did like it, but I didn't love it because of this reason. While I think this is a good thing for the new series (read my next paragraph), I wanted more. More details, more information, just more...

I haven't read [b:Beautiful Chaos|13526144|Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles, #3)|Kami Garcia|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1340758738s/13526144.jpg|11254742] or Beautiful Redemption (I will try and read them next year. I will try, no promises), but I sense this new series will have the same effect on the fans as when Cassandra Clare announced that she was writing books 4, 5 & 6 of the Mortal Instruments series. Some fans were VERY excited. Some fans were VERY unhappy. And some fans didn't honestly care and trusted the author with this decision. And I think this will be the same with Dangerous Creatures, which is why I feel that what Margaret and Kami did (writing this eNovella) was a smart move. If you are unsure if you want to read this new series or not, READ THIS FIRST then you can sit down afterwards and make up your own mind.

As I still need to read Beautiful Chaos and Beautiful Redemption, I don't know if I will go to this new series just yet, but I do find Link and Ridley's relationship interesting to read (I mean, come on. HOW are these two very different people in this intense/hot relationship?) and I like that Ridley is so complex and yet doesn't give two hoots about how the world sees her (and I love how Emmy Rossum played her in the movie), BUT we shall wait and see if this new series is going to be just as big as the Beautiful Creatures series...

I wasn't super into this. My main issue with the [b:Beautiful Creatures|6304335|Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)|Kami Garcia|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327873282s/6304335.jpg|6488966] series is that it goes on and on with detail with lack of a direction--and this short story was no different. It should leave me wanting more from Garcia and Stohl...but I'm not sure I do.

I welcomed Dangerous Dream with open arms mostly because it was a novella and I knew I would breeze through it. I also was hoping it would make me like Link and Ridley a little bit more too.

Now I've never been a huge fan of their relationship because I was so in love with Ethan and Lena's. So I was trying to go into this series with an open mind and not judge it based on the characters I didn't really like since the first book. Honestly, I sort of liked this book but I still don't like the characters.

Dangerous Dream is basically a novella showcasing Ridley's feelings for Link. It was interesting enough to get me to finish it but I was also a little confused throughout it as well. Besides being a little confused I also kind of found it boring. Thank god it was less than 100 pages but still... it was a boring novella. I can't wait to finish out this series and move on from it. I'm hoping that the last book will be really good because if it isn't I'm going to be sad about this series.

How is this a prequel if it lists all the plot points in the series?

Cool. Now I don't have to read all the books.
