Reread 3/22: A reread of a favorite as I prepare to finally visit Barcelona!! Though the Cemetery of Forgotten Books novels are not quite a series, I think of them chronologically, so I consider this the third book. It’s the shortest and I’d say the most…gross of the lot? But its more graphic details never feel gratuitous. A large portion of this book details Fermín’s stay in a dismal prison, so the gritty nature fits. I like that all the books have distinct character too. It’s not just Ruiz Zafón writing the same story over and over again. I do think this is perhaps my least favorite of the collection, but that’s not saying much since I adore these books so much and hold Ruiz Zafón in such high regard! Now that I’ve reread this, Angel’s Game, and Shadow of the Wind, I can finally read Labyrinth of Spirits for the first time! I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to get here!
