4.5 stars. This one was even better than the first book. Awesome! Can't wait I see how the series ends.

What I love best about this book—and there are a lot of things to love—is the complexity of everyone's relationships and motivations, and all the shades of grey. There are good guys and bad guys, sure, but no one is all one or all the other and it's not always clear—here, or in life—which is which. There were a lot of things that made me uncomfortable in the story, but they were meant to, they were things that should not have sat easily with a person, and I wasn't sorry they were there, narratively. Just sorry for anyone who had to endure them.

The more I thought about it, the less I wanted to read the next book, I'm over these people and everyone being a bad guy.

I liked this book, probably better than the first one. It held my attention very well and had lots of intrigue and plot twists to river readers. There is an element of romance between Todd and Viola, which normally annoys me, but in this book it was well done. The way they used each other as support rather than constant affection was good. This book will make you question what it means to be "right" and what must be given up to lead.
