One of Tor.com's wonderful fiction originals.

Why is SF so scared of girls? Why are they always too young to be powerful, too weird to be trusted, too angry to invite love?

Kressel's delightful Fish is the same kid we've seen a million times except she vibrates with love, she revels in weird, and says pfui to anger. She's not trusted. She's fighting to get the trust she's earned and, as she grabs it from the world that judges her as a child, she leaves all the adults far behind in her ascension into Artisthood.

This short tale, about 30min to read, made me very happy and kept me smiling at its inventive language and world-building. Invest the eyeblinks on a dismal day, rise refreshed and smile your brightest.

At first I couldn't get into the world and the language created by the author, but once I got used to it, I started to enjoy this little story very much. The imagery and symbolism were amazing and although overall, the story had a sad mood, I liked it.
