OK, I'm totally the wrong audience for this. But still.

We have a quite decent plot, if you stick to the who-did-what-to-whom, when-and-how-and-why.

Molin has chosen some options around it that I don't care for. Others may like it.

The first is having Dreamy McSwoon as the cop. Oh. flutter, sigh, blush. I do believe I've read this before. Hey, at least he doesn't have grey eyes. Does he? I'm afraid to look. Phew, he doesn't.

The second is having the heroine be another Stephanie Plum stock character, who blunders along doing the opposite of what Hunky Protector tells her to do, and always guessing right with nearly no data.

I think Molin has the chops to write a book with more believable characters. Having said that, I liked Lawrence.

Also, sadly, if you take out Dreamy and make him a normal decent cop, and hack out all the padding with Ryan and Andy the team, this sucker's a novella. Perhaps a good one, but it was not to be.

Part cosy mystery, part sappy romance, part homage to geekdom, this was a fun read. I'll be honest, you could write a book about floor wax and as long as you sprinkled in enough of the right kind of pop culture references I'll enjoy it. It has something to do with the "Oh, I totally get that" feeling, an almost conspiratorial relationship it builds between author and reader. With out the pop culture references, this would have been a passable cosy mystery completely mucked up with too-saccharine romance. Again, full disclosure, I don't typically enjoy "romance" novels. This one kept the focus on the nascent relationship and in the PG territory, but there was still too much swooning and "butterflies in the stomach" moments for me to take the protagonist as seriously as I could have. I won't hear a word against the meddling amateur, because that's the point of a cosy mystery, and MG is a perfect bumbling sleuth.

Yeah, I'm done with this. I think the main character is an abrasive know-it-all with a boulder (not a chip) on her shoulder. I think her whole misunderstood-woe-is-me-I'm-nerdy-and-judged persona is pretty rich, since she's very quick to jump to conclusions about other people. And as a person who's both geeky and nerdy, I think she's way too defensive since these days geek is considered chic. Plus, I find the whole "he does this thing but it's definitely *not* cute" aspect is obnoxious, since it's obvious Matteo is intended to be her love interest.

The other thing that bugged me was her insistence that her boss is an idiot. Where's the proof? If he's meant to be one, the book ought to show that rather than having her tell the reader that constantly. Since she's already coming off as a know-it-all, it's a bit hard to take her claim seriously. Instead, I picture her as one of those sniffy ultra-artsy types who thinks no one gets their vision.

Rarely have I been so annoyed with a main character.

Really loved it. Would recommend.

I had a hard time getting started with this book because the main character has an initially in your face personality. After the first few chapters she started to feel a bit more relatable and by the end i couldn't put it down. I finished this standing need to my dresser because i was supposed to be putting down my phone for the night but couldn't stop reading. Really loved it. Would recommend.

Great Book!

I loved so much about this one!! Comic writer and self-proclaimed geek teams up with a cop to solve crime based on comic book copy cat. There are so many fabulous things including romance, drag queens, and super geek references. I loved it!

Wanted to love it, but the geek references were too awkward and awful.

Yep, I was worried about "not-like-other girls" vibes and it checked out.
