Really interesting mystery, narrated from vantage point of brilliant female doctor with Asperger's syndrome.

One word I can think of this novel is compelling.

I learn so many things from this novel. One thing being the Asperger Syndrome. I first learn about AS through the movie My Name is Khan.

I think it's fascinating that the main character is an Aspie. A little bit of life from an Aspie's point of view. She's quite a character, I must say.

The story itself is intriguing. Murders and conspiracies, betrayals and schemes. You won't be bored with this one, I promise you.

This book could never have more than three stars because the writing is in that modern sell-a-book vein that has little depth to its diction. The characters aren't developed until absolutely necessary either because the plot has to come first in a book like this, which means I am not going to like it. No character in here is particularly deep.

Nevertheless, the plot is very good. The second opinion provided by Thea is that of a good formula protagonist: the picture only looks good when you don't see the details, and then the details end up telling the entire story. I enjoyed the ending a lot because it was one of those events that I slapped myself for not getting immediately. I also enjoyed the progression of the plot. There was a laundry list of antagonists and Palmer does a good job of going through them up to the end.

However, the lack of great descriptive writing or great character development forces a 3-star ceiling; in that sense, I'm gladly willing to give this book all of them.

Humorous without being mocking and kind without being sentimental.

I particularly liked the author's treatment of his main character, a woman with Asperger's syndrome. And then to find out at the end of the book that the author's own son has the condition was particularly poignant.

Because of the author's personal experience, I would recommend this book to folks who want to better understand Asperger's. I felt like I came away with a better understanding as well.

And Asperger's aside, it was a great story and fun to read.

This book tried really hard to get me to like it, but it lost me with the ridiculous plot twists, ending, and unresolved storylines. Oh yeah and a graphic sexual scene! Praise the lord I was able to skip right on past that part! For a medical thriller/drama I feel like this book had some serious promise, especially with a narrator that lived with and overcame a lot of her issues with her Aspergers disease. Unfortunately this book fell pretty flat for me so it’s gonna be 2/5 I know I said 3 in the video but I changed my mind.

My notes from when I actually read this book in 2009 read "terrible writing... 'manliness,' 'man-strength'! OMG..."

This was probably one of my favorite of his books. More for the characters than the plotlines, which were surprisingly very emotional to me.
