Pulp fiction of the 1970s this Indiana Jones type tale was notably not published in Michael Crichton's own name.

A select group of Super Talented Men (a burglar, an archaeologist, a linguist and a rich Lord) decide to rob the last "undiscovered" pharaohs tomb in Luxor, right under the noses of the Egyptian Antiquities department.

As sexist and racist as you would expect from an era where Egypt is still a British colony and Afghanistan is considered a holiday destination. We've come a long way in half a century.

What a classic Heist story. I loved the relative simplicity of it, exactly what I was in the mood for!

This one was just okay. As the third book written as John Lange, it feels like it was rushed in a way that the first book, “Odds On” wasn’t. “Odds On” has a more robust cast of characters, more fully realized, and the plot was more complex and intricate than “Easy Go”. Given our world of high stakes Ocean’s Eleven-style robberies, Indiana Jones adventures, and pulp fiction’s mighty past with adventure stories, this one finished limply, and never really ascended to a level of edge-of-your-seat thriller that we have come to expect. Even being dated (copyright 1968), it still feels like a weak outing as an adventure yarn. Read it for fun, I suppose, but don’t hope for high stakes. You won’t find them.

I love Michael Chrichton, but this was not one of his better works. I gave it 3 stars because, it is Michael Chrichton and being one of his early works, he was still learning his craft.

I like Michael Crichton off and on, not everything he's written, but most. This book seems to be from either a need to write something different when he was famous or when he was first starting out. Gave it a try as an inexpensive download to my Nook and very glad I found it.
It's an archeological caper with only one archeologist. Everyone else is a wee bit shady. The search is on for a hidden tomb, missed by history for some reason but discovered by the one archeologist in the story. He is reading old papyri scrolls and finds a hidden note of the possible missing tomb. He meets and confides in a writer friend, they concoct a scheme to organize a team to find the tomb and treasure and get it all out of Egypt without the government finding out.
It's adventure, humor, and fast-moving...and lots and lots of cigarettes and heat. I enjoyed it and I hope to find it in paperback so my dad can read it.
Definite recommend.
