Beautifully written and absolutely gut punching coming of age story. The content is often very hard to read, trigger warnings abound, but there is also much joy in the relationship with her father and her home. I felt so many feelings reading this and it won’t be for everyone.

This book had some really emotional and dark content that made it difficult to get through - and I usually like sad books

I DNF’d this at 68%. I think the writing was marvelous. But the content held too many triggers for me: child rape, incest, poverty, racism... there were beautiful moments of love and art and an appreciation for the environment that almost had me continue. But it wasn’t enjoyable enough for me. These characters couldn’t escape their horrible reality, but I can.
