A very straightforward story about Nolan, an ex-soldier turned assassin, who runs afoul of a high tech street gang while trying to save a junkie. There isn't much to the plot, our hero dispatches various groups of gang members using his AI powered exosuit as be tries to save the people around him. Unfortunately we never really get to know anybody else besides Nolan and his AI companion so these events never take on any meaning. Even Nolan himself is more than a little bland. He's a recovering addict, a paraplegic (when not using his exosuit) and a former elite covert soldier but I'm hard pressed to remember much else about him. He's kind of gruff, I guess. And he cares about his neighbours (but again we don't ever see him interact with them). All in all it's a perfectly fine book and I could see the series expanding in something more compelling but there isn't enough here to convince me to continue

I like the world the author has envisioned, and the main character has a decently interesting back story.

But this definitely would've needed more characters than just the AI for the main guy to talk to. Someone with an actual personality, everything is just inner monologue now and it gets a bit boring with no-one listening.

Some of the chase scenes are just pages and pages of fluff and internal monologue about how much of a hurry the dude is from one place to another. It works when you arrive at the last second once, but three times in a row? Come on.

And as with all self-published(?) books, this would've needed a copy editor

Will check out the sequel though, I want to see what happens next.
