I had hoped to love this one as much as her other one I've read, but for some reason, this one just really didn't grip me as much. It was ok, maybe a high 3.5 stars, but definitely not quite as good.

It jumps around quite a bit, but I was able to follow along pretty easily. The plot was ok... but I'm not sure why I just didn't love it.

Sundial was a whirlwind. Ward has the uncanny ability to make you question everything, teasing out the truth as you read and leaving you shattered by the end. While starting slow and more of a thriller, Sundial evolves into a horror that is all too familiar. Rob and Callie's relationship ebbs and flows as the truth is revealed and is a painfully honest portrayal of mothers and daughters, just pushed to the extreme.
It was unexpected, gripping until the very end, and is certainly one that I'll think about for a long time.

The parallels between the experiments on the dogs (like Langley) and the girls are horrific. Trying to change chemistry to get rid of the bad is an age old question, but there's a violation in testing those closest to us. The dogs didn't deserve to have their DNA permanently altered. By taking away their fear response, they were turned into ghosts of themselves.

It's a story that begs for compassion in the face of cruelty. What Falcon and Mia thought was a service to these animals, only gave them more pain. The cannibalism was just icing on the cake.

DNF.

This book was nothing like what I expected. I thought I knew what was happening and then everything changed somehow. And then once I was sure I REALLY knew what was happening it switched up on me again. I enjoyed it a lot, it kept me on my toes and kept my head spinning.

I really enjoyed the many twists and how ominous the author left some things. However, I think there were some misses in this world Catriona Ward created, so I rated half a star less. I listened to the audiobook and one thing that drove me a little crazy was the narrator mispronouncing "saguaro" and "cholla" cactus (the main character was from the desert and should've known better). Overall, I had a good time reading this one and the themes and questions presented in the story will have me thinking for some time.
