Interesting short memoir. Roxanne is without a doubt the best Steve Martin movie.

I might come across as a pansy on this one. Maybe it's due to some similar circumstances in my personal life that I haven't dealt with very well. But there were chapters in this book that made me cry. Mainly dealing with his relationship with his father and his father's death. So very well written. Great read.

This wasn’t bad, but it was ultimately a little disappointing. It’s hard to put my finger on quite why that is, but I just didn’t find it all that engaging. I listened to it on a audiobook, which was a strange experience. Serious Steve Martin reading about funny Steve Martin? I enjoyed it, but it made it a little hard to know what the tone of the book was supposed to be.

This is a memoir mostly about Steve Martin’s standup career, which is something I’m not very familiar with. It was interesting, but not especially personal (except for stories about his relationship with his parents) and felt mostly like a generic stand up comedians story of growing through the ranks and growing in success. I’d love to read a memoir that includes a lot more of his film career through all his SNL appearances and, mostly recently, Only Murders. Maybe someday!
