Lemony Snicket starts off each book in this series by warning us that it will be extremely depressing, and we should stop reading it.
Every time I laugh and continue reading, and then at the end of the book I’m like “HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME SUFFER, SIR.” As though he had not warned me.
Then I immediately go searching for the next in the series.

I feel like this book was mostly filler. Far too many "Aye!"s and way too much annoying villainous laughter. Great ending though.

Only two books to go. Don't you hurt my Baudelaires, Mr Snicket!

For the first half of this book, I was kinda appreciating the writing in the series and thinking to myself how I should be less of an ass about it. But the second half reminded me of the things that annoy me. I'm not gonna mention those again, but I will mention something unique to this book. There's a character who's particulalrly fond of the world "Aye!" (exclamation point included) and the world is used, I shit you not, 99 fucking times! Kinda glad I decided to forgo the audiobook because hearning it so many times would've made me lose my mind.

This was still a decent book. I like that we're moving forward and building up to something now. There's a scene toward the end with a character with conflicting loyalties that I really liked. I like that Sunny gets to use real-ish words now. I've always hated the gibberish. And I'm happy to be so close to the end.

SpoilerP.S. A baby being poisoned and slowly dying is exactly why I would never give this book to a child. That's so fucked up.

Tbh, was a tad bit bored until the end. This one was a little predictable, like some earlier titles, but I really liked the cliffhanger.

(Read as audiobook and e-book)
