Too slow for me, no real action by 180 pages.

This book was very different from my usual reads. Parts of it I loved, but I found a lot of it distracting, but I think those bits will be what charm certain readers. I’m glad I read it even if I didn’t love it.

3.5 stars to this book.
I wanted to love this book, but it’s a bit too slow for me. It could have been 200 pages shorter with the same result. The ending kind of let me down as well. I enjoyed the wrap up of the history, but felt like the scenes I wanted most to read were glossed over in a sentence. And I get that it’s because the book is about the people involved, and the history, and not the filming itself, but I still felt mildly disappointed. It all leads to the filming and then....nothing. I think I would have more enjoyed this as two separate books, with all the past first and then the present second? In any case, happy I read it, sad it took me FOREVER to get through.

The story itself & the writing style were nice enough, but it always felt kind of unfinished, leading up to something else. Which I thought to be horror, but there rarely was some in here. And on its own the story just doesn’t hold up. It would have been perfect if at around page 350 it would have tipped into horror, but instead I just a read a semi interesting story about rather plain (bad) characters with very little to them

I was pretty sure I would love this, and it did not disappoint! Clever, spooky, enthralling—I could not put this down. From 1902 to modern day and from Hollywood to Rhode Island, the novel is detailed and compelling. I was scared, I was entertained, this is such a fun read, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a spooky, fun, queer read.

It's great but it's not what is advertised on the cover jacket or any synopsis I've seen.
