Claremont writing Avengers! First appearance of rogue! Spider-woman glides through the air carrying Carol Danvers between her fucking spider-thighs, holy god damn shit!
For all intents and purposes this is a pretty standard super hero romp, there's a new villain in town, this villain is in league with older villains, that villain gets the drop on the heroes, the heroes make new allies and stop a prisonbreak, resetting things to the status quo.
We get another Mystique and Destiny appearance, which is always so incredible. I can't believe that no one at Marvel realized they were gay when Mystique is calling her shit like Irenie.
Speaking of gay, Jessica and Carol Danvers are having incredibly gay thoughts about eachother for this entire issue and there's nothing you can tell me that will convince me otherwise. Knowing Claremont, I'm fairly certain that was intentional as well
The art in this is sort of hit or miss, and more often miss than not. There's a couple close up panel are just creepy (Demon baby xavier isn’t real and he can't hurt you)
The epilogue of this is pretty nuts.I haven't read any other avengers comics so I don't know the full context, but it really loved when Carol was like "Hey guys? Remeber when I got pregnant and carried it to term in a single day? Remember how rather than helping me you all made jokes? Remember how you trivialized any potential danger to me and instead were only concerned about the baby? And remember when the baby grew into a grownass man overnight? Remember how that man told you he had subtly fucking altered my thoughts to make me fall in love with him? Remember how that didn't raise any flags for you at all? And remember how you were more than happy to say goodbye to me forever so that he could take me to his private hell dimension where literally everything was under his control? Remember all that? Yeah, fuck you guys." And then the way home Wanda was like "OMG that was so scary! I mean, imagine if that happened to meee". Such a Claremont way to write superhero stories, I absolutely love itt
But don't let any if that distract you from the fact that Spider-woman glided over the San Fancisco Bay holding on to Carol Danvers with her fucking thighs

Ever since I watched X-Men (90's animated series), Rogue has been my favorite character.
This issue is her 1st appearance in Marvel and she takes on the Avengers and Captain Marvel.
Besides Rogue, I was intrigued by Captain Marvel and Spider Woman.
Hawkeye and Beast were also hilarious.
I look forward to MCU's interpretation of this issue in the Captain Marvel sequel and hope for an Avengers crossover with other hero teams like Fantastic Four and X-Men.

It's difficult to read old "classic" comics because the art isn't as sophisticated and the writing style is pretty old fashioned and extremely cheesy! However I think this is a very important issue to read and it packs a punch.
You've got Spider-woman rescuing Carol Danvers after Rogue took her memories, powers and personality and left her a blank slate. Professor X helped her get her memories back which includes everything that happened with Marcus in what I known now as 'The Rape of Ms Marvel' story.
Meanwhile the Avengers and Spider-Woman have a pretty epic fight with Mystique, her Brotherhood of Mutants and Rogue (who has Ms Marvel powers plus Captain America and Thor!).
The conclusion of this issue is where it gets really good. The Avengers visit Carol at the Xavier's and she really lays into them about what they did to her by being happy about the creepy pregnancy and letting Marcus take her away with big smiles and waves, and how much she hated them for betraying her like that. She even slaps Thor! The Avengers all go away shamefaced and with a lot to think about.
I do love Carol.
My main negative with this is that I'm pretty sure Rogue is a teenager in this story but she's drawn like a haggard 50 year old lady with bad hooker make up. Very distracting!

An absolutely wonderful read. I was recommended this book because it was the origin of Rouge and I loved the character. The art was stunning and the plot interesting. So much action. Could not recommend it more if you can get your hands on it. Five out of five stars.
This issue is mentioned bueno Bendis in his final Avengers issue as "the best comic book ever". I can see some of the themes from his run originate here. Good stuff!
