There are two books I regularly see younger doctors carrying around, sneaking a chapter during a coffee break or between theatre cases. The first is When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, which I reviewed here. The second is (delightfully titled) Manage Your Money Like a F*cking Grownup by Sam Beckbessinger.

In short, this is one of the most valuable books I have ever read, and I finally feel that I can stop being a slave to the "Middle Class Dream". To read more, click through to the review on my blog, here.

I bought this book on Friday, and finished it on Sunday. It’s an easy read complete with swearing and funny anecdotes. Having studied creative writing and worked at 22Seven, Sam has a really great way of explaining and talking about money in an easy to understand manner (even the nasty stuff like tax and insurance).
I can’t recommend this book enough and I wish I had read this book ages ago.

Hopefully it will help you too!

As someone who never read books about finance, and this being the first and probably last book I'll read on the topic, I thought it was excellent and very informative. It’s clear, engaging and super practical!

This book is a step in the right direction when it comes to Money Matters and Financial Management for young South Africans!

This book NEEDS to be a staple in every household, before you buy bread, buy this book first...
For yourself.
For your children.
For your partner.
Aargh, even the PET needs to get a load of this stuff!

If you are in your twenties & thirties, equip yourself with this book, and you will definitely make much better decisions when it comes to your money...you will manage your money like a fucking grown up.

PS: The author does swear a lot, but its humorous and not off-putting, the title should definitely be a heads up though.

Really good for those who do not understand money at all (ie tax, investments etc) — Sam explains it all in simple English with no fancy jargons. Highly recommend for anyone between 20-late 30s. I feel blessed that I found this just in time! F*** yeah!
