I was hoping second book will be better. But it felt like step back. Hiro is completely useless character. They suppose to be some sort of spy, considering how they infiltrated Geans in previous book, but they can't keep they mouth shut and thanks to that betraying their allies in the process. Aunt Marsha influence on Agora completely not believeble. She's been one of the seven only four months and somehow she is their speaker and most influential and apparently richest so she can bribe others at will.

And most characters are like children trying to play at grownup table and as expected failing miserable at that.

didn't think this second instalment would eek out the extra half star from me but by the end it did. Even if, once again, I was plagued by a POV that felt like a slog. Yes, First Sister, I'm talking about you.

Also, yes, once again, this was a buddy read and the pack did not disappoint.

Initially, my perspective on the perspectives were that Lito's was the most interesting plot-wise, Hiro's was the most fun to experience, Astrid's made me want to walk into traffic, and Luce had.. potential. And by the end of it? Lito's broke my heart. Hiro was no longer a fun time. Astrid only offered up a sliver of interest in the renewed mystery of her backstory. And Luce, wow. What a badass.

So many characters underwent evolutions in this sequel but equally there were so many times when you just weren't able to pin characters down. It was a bit of a rollercoaster in that sense but not necessarily in a bad way. But it did mean you had to pay attention because sometimes all it took was a brief observation to make you doubt, wonder, and speculate.

And oh did we speculate. And I'm really proud to say I predicated two pretty big bits near the end of this one.

When I came out of THE FIRST SISTER, I had two hopes. For Astrid's POV, her character, to become more interesting (fail). And, somewhat unspoken, I wanted a little more from the worldbuilding because it had felt somewhat hard to grasp. And now that we have an additional element to contend with.. yeah, I wish this world just felt a little more solid. Easily could've sacrificed some of the time detailing all the corruption in a certain Sisterhood to instead make things feel more clear cut. But maybe that's just me. Because, like, I get it.. but I wish I got it, you know?

Anyway, after that ending I have no doubt we won't be resisting book three for long. I'm excited for more BRs and also to have started and finished a series I've put off for a while in such a short turnaround. Win win win.
