How much time did you spend in nature when you were a child? How many hours spent outside on bikes, in the trees or deep in the mud? Do you remember that time when you didn’t need to worry about falling, bruises and strangers?

Do you remember that want and need of adventure?

Ok I love what this book is saying and I like that it tried to keep diversity and access in mind for the most part. BUT the fact that there is ZERRO indigenous people quoted in this book about nature gives m colonizer vibes. The author is speaking in an authoritative voice which feels like he created about communing with nature but as we know indigenous folX have been doing that long before this guy had something to say. A yr ago I would have thought this was great but I know better now. If anyone has a similar book rec with indigenous rep or author I’d love to read it…I’m not saying this had to be written by an indigenous author to be valid piece of work, this author clearly dedicated his career to this topic, however to not even quote an indigenous person about the importance of nature exploration just doesn’t sit right.

This book brainwashed me. I started hiking, looked up coliving / buying a farm, browsed for graduate programs about ecopsychology and outdoor education, almost bought hiking boots, got inspired to write about children and nature for a paper for my culminating project in school, and I have another 10 books on my TBR now because of this. So applicable and inspiring for so many people, whether working with children, with children of their own, or even just as adults. Richard Louv is my hero and this book was so eye opening.

Such a wonderful book! I think this is a must read for everyone, and it provides so many resources in order to help the reader find ways to get out and explore nature.

Enjoyable read. However, very little for adults to do (something promised in the introduction).

More practical advice for getting ourselves out and involved in nature. Louv doesn't bother making an argument (as he already has two other books that do just that), instead this is more of a works cited or bibliography of nature groups and outdoor activities.

Pulled some tangible activities to do with the kids from here, the rest was a lot of common sense. Overall, a nice resource on the importance of nature for many different audiences. There was a section on natural libraries that I also liked!
