This one was a tough read. Had me in tears more than once. Jessica did a good balance on Trent's situation and the romance. Trent and Laura have drifted apart. Trent feels dead inside and chooses his men and missions over Laura and the kids more times than Laura can take.

It takes Trent going up for a court marshall to push them back together. While they fall in love all over again, Trent is trying to defend himself from some treasonous accusations. The mystery of who set him up is a shock to me.

The second book in Jessica Scott’s Coming Home series was sweet, heartbreaking, and fantastic story all rolled in to one. I had not read book 1.5 in the series so I did feel just a little lost when Back to You opened but that could also be because the novel does have a lot of military references that I’m not familiar with. What I absolutely loved about this story was that it was a married couple, Trent and Laura, trying to find happiness and maybe some resolution as their marriage falls apart. On the recommendation of his lawyer, with Trent’s court martial trail coming up it’s recommended that he present a united, happy front with Laura. But Trent isn’t sure how to be home anymore. After being deployed on and off for the past ten years, his two small children terrify him. As Trent works with a councilor to understand his new normal, he’s able to open up to Laura more and more. This was a fabulous story of how a returning soldier learns to come home again. Great read!

Coming home for Trent and Laura

Jessica Scott writes her book from experience of being an officer who knows how it really is being deployed. With Back to you we meet Trent who is facing a article 32 hearing and eg

Back to You was a very emotional read. I had to stop several times because tears were rolling down my cheeks. I was drawn to this story because I am a member of a military family. I could really relate to some of the aspects of the book, and I found myself sort of nodding my head and agreeing. However, there were some areas in the book that completely opened my eyes to think on their behavior differently from the perspective of the soldier. I wanted to know why so many far away looks and the feeling of your body is here with me...but you are miles away. This book spoke to the heart of those issues and many more. Every person that is a member of a military family should read this book and get a copy for another military family. This book manages to be deep, thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. I did shed tears, but they weren't tears of sadness. They were tears of release because it seemed like I was reading pages that could have been torn from my own life story.

Trent Davila is a captain in the Army. Trent was wounded and nearly died. Though his physical body was alive, Trent was unable to live because he was crippled by survivor's guilt. Unwilling to reach out to his wife for help and unable to understand his role in the family Trent volunteers for several deployments while misleading his wife, Laura Davila. Laura doesn't understand how their love story could have gone so wrong. Trent finds himself on the receiving end of divorce papers from his wife and being court martialed for crimes he did not commit. Though Laura no longer believes they have a future she refuses to allow Trent to face the court martial alone. In true military wife style she sticks by his side and helps him.

Along the way Trent knew that he didn't deserve a second chance, but the embers of their passionate love begin to flare as they spend time together. Their journey individually and collectively was full of mistakes, fear, forgiveness, determination, and perseverance. The book mimiced real life. We move through life making mistakes, learning from them, and blazing a trail that is uniquely our own while trying to hold our families together. I loved the humanity of both characters. They clearly made mistakes and were flawed, but I couldn't help loving them and championing them to the end.

I haven't read the other books in the series, and I had no problem following this book. It's a must read for everyone that knows finding your lifetime partner and love of a lifetime is a small feat compared to the effort of keeping that relationship strong and loving through the years.

I really enjoyed this story about a man that spent about 10 years deployed because that was all he knew. He caused great damage to his relationship with his wife and barely knew his kids. It was hard to read at times, because the topic is so real, so current. I've seen people feel the way Trent does, and it's sad and scary for them.

I love the way Scott wrote the feelings, the way the author wrote Laura and how she dealt with Trent. Laura knew she couldn't fix her husband, but she knew she could walk beside him while he did it–if that's what he wanted.

All of the characters were incredible. There was a small cast of them, but they added so much to the story, to understanding how they all may walk the same path during deployment, but are dealt different hands and deal with things differently.

I had no idea when I requested this that it was part of a series. However, even though reading all of the series would help one understand more, it wasn't necessary. Scott does a great job giving us all we need to know in this book. So, if you want to read them all and in order, I'm sure that's even better, but if not, you could pick this one up and not miss anything. But as good as this is, I think I may go back and read the others when I have time. :)

Back to You is one tear-jerker of a book. I swear I was a hot mess when reading this book, especially during certain scenes. I had the tissues on hand next to me, while reading this because this book touched my heart. I have wanted to read Trent and Laura's story since the first Coming Home book.

I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to readers who love contemporary romance novels and military romance novels.

Just a warning though, have the tissues ready. Laura and Trent's story is a tear-jerker.

This book is going on my favorites for 2014 already.
