Book 1 of the malloreon series. I recommend reading the first set in the world, the belgariad. It really sets up the world build and characters to this point. While you can read this set without having read previous and understand enough about the story you will be missing so much in the world build that I feel like it takes away too much.
This is kind of a slow book. Setting up and getting ready to quest and reintroducing world and characters. I feel like nothing really happens and much of the book is mundane but it's written in a way that it wasn't terrible to read and the book did go by pretty fast. Keeps interest to read next up.

I definitely enjoyed the continuation of the world created in The Belgariad, however it seemed to take forever for the story to really pick up. I get it, though, this is setting up everything for the rest of the series, so it is necessary. I'm looking forward to re-reading the rest of the books!
