I just can’t keep the stories of the characters straight. I really wanted to like this book but it’s too all over the place for me. The idea is so fascinating and such a great concept, but the pacing makes it so challenging to be invested in any one plot line or any one character for me to want to keep reading :(

The conceit of the book is fascinating and exciting but the pacing makes it very hard to feel immersed in the plot or invested in the characters.

Interesting world building, but never quite comes together. Not enough historical depth to feel like a dedicated alternative history and none of the characters were compelling enough to really carry it. Never felt like the book had an emotional center.
