I love everything Cookie writes. Her style is sweet, caring, spunky with a taste of daring.

This book is cute and romantic, characters are lovely people just dealing with life, overcoming the bumps and trying to make it despite, well, life.

Very enjoyable. Love the family. Will read the next!!

I lived and breathed this book. Couldn’t put it down set up until one forced myself to sleep only to get up and finish it the next day. I have read two previous books from this author and so far not been disappointed by any. I love Honor and Archer such great characters and their live story is completely sweet. But most importantly I live the whole O’Brien Family and I can’t wait for each one of their love stories. I only with author would put an epilogue I would live a glimpse into the future see how Honor and Archie are doing did they get married, did he go on to the big leagues, do they have children, did chase get to play ball again. I truly can’t wait for each of the O’Brien stories. Each character is so unique I truly hope each one gets their own story. I’m eager for Emmy to get a love interest the guy will have to be pretty brave and interesting to be able to handle her many brother.

I've read everything Cookie O'Gorman has written so when I saw this new release I was very excited.

Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the standards I'm used to for this awesome author. The writing style wasn't as strong as previous works, parts of the story didn't feel flushed out. While this is not my favorite book by this author, I'm still glad I read it.

The first half of the book focuses heavily on the interviews for the school paper. But after the second one is published we don't hear another word about the newspaper. Honor switching up her interview style from discussion to handing the subject a piece of paper to fill out like homework was extremely strange, as well.

Honor is a total book nerd (love it!), and on the school paper (apparently the best writer they have), yet she says she is going to become a CPA till she finds her passion. I totally get the stability of the profession she is choosing, but her passion is clearly reading/writing so this doesn't make much sense. She repeatedly references her mother as the reason she is afraid to love, but there was no real resolution to this plot point. She never talked it out to discover how unhealthy this perspective is, she didn't have an epiphany or moment where this fear is finally conquered. It just magically disappears and then she is left hurt anyways.

Archer is a stand up guy....until he isn't. Everyone makes mistakes, not begrudgingly him that. I genuinely love this character, but wow holy douche move of epic proportions. Telling a girl you want to be with her, you want more than just sex, taking her virginity and then breaking up in a text message the morning after is pretty much as low as you can get. On the scale of 1 to 10 in the jackass department Archer is getting an 11. The speed with which Honor forgives him is...remarkable.

There were little moments that seemed like they were leading up to bigger plot points but ultimately fell flat. Mentions of the O'Brien father that were hushed.

It made no sense to me that everyone was so frantic over where Archer was when Chase was hurt. Charlie and Chase knew he was with Honor. Rationally they could have called her or stopped by the apartment to let him know what was going on.

All these notes aside. I'm now fully invested in the O'Brien clan and I'm gonna need some more books. I want to see Chase find his soul mate, I want to see who manages to tame Dex, when will Bay finally give in and admit he's head over heels for June, will Finn win over Rose? I need to know these things!!!

This was so cute! I really liked both Honor and Archer. Whenever Archer got protective of Honor I swooned a bit 🥵 I absolutely loved the family dynamic between the O'brien's too! I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Reviewed on my blog, Becky on Books, on 4/25/2020.

The Best Mistake is a swoony, romantic new adult sports romance that is refreshingly free of much of the angst that NA books usually feature. Yes, Archer feels overly responsible for his siblings, but they still have a mother who is very present in their lives (she even coaches 4 of them on their college baseball team!) so the entire world isn't really on his shoulders. And yes, Honor has relationship issues inherited from her parents, but they're not nearly as OTT as the genre can get.

Add in book geekiness (Honor and I might not share exactly the same tastes, but our feelings about HEA are the same--and yes, I was that girl who brought books to parties; even now I won't buy a purse that my ereader doesn't fit in, because why bother? I won't use it), a close knit family for the ages (inspired by The Bridgertons! Need I say more?), and a BFF that will always have your back (tell me that Charlie's going to get a story too? Please?) and yeah, I didn't want to put this one down.

This was EXACTLY what I needed to read right now--just the right blend of fun and romance to get my mind off of everything else. Please, please, please write the rest of the O'Briens' stories ASAP, Ms O'Gorman :)

Rating: 4 stars / A-

The Best Mistake was my first time reading anything written by Cookie O”Gorman, and it didn’t disappoint. Generally New Adult is not always my favorite genre, but I was captivated by Honor and Archers story from the very first chapter.
I loved the character of Honor. She is fun and quirky. He has a lot of self-doubt and trust issues to wade through due to some personal history. I do not typically enjoy the new adult genre often because the characters are immature, it also sometimes comes off as “high school” this was not the case by O’Gorman. She wrote Honor as if she has been carrying the whole world for her lifetime. So much so that she has not even attend a college party. She is a senior and hasn’t even had a boyfriend or sex.

Archer O’Brien has a lot more depth than I thought a college athlete would have. He is super thoughtful. He has such a seriousness about him. His sense of responsibility for his family makes him even more desirable. All this plus being a star baseball player makes him a completely swoon worthy character. His familiar relationships play a huge part in this story line. As with any large Irish family they are constantly in each other’s business.
The meet cute between these two was steamy and simply perfect but at the moment when says the wrong brothers name you just know this story is going to have its share of push and pull between Honor and Archer.
The supporting characters in this story also have a lot of potential. I can’t wait for their stories. They all add something to the storyline. Sometimes if there is a large cast of supporting characters the story becomes muddled. O’Gorman made sure that it was very clearly Honor and Archer’s story and the supporting characters did not distract from the main story.
This is was a good read for me. It was a solid 4/5 read. I loved that their connections were more than just sexual or baseball, it gives the sense this relationship will go the distance.
