Not the best of the Tor.com short story collections. For He Can Creep is the real standout of this collection with Seonag and the Seawolves and Any Way the Wind Blows tying for a distant but solid second. Everything else ranges from okay to meh.

Murder in the Spook House Michael Swanwick
2 stars
A relatively common whodunnit with a speculative fiction twist. Nothing particularly memorable or interesting.

Any Way the Wind Blows  Seanan McGuire
4 stars
An amusing tribute in honor of Tor’s relocation from the Flatiron building. Fun and quirky spacefare.

Skinner Box Carole Johnstone
3 stars
A darkly traumatic story of science and cruelty. Would have been more to my taste had it not been so predictable.

The New Prometheus Michael Swanwick
2 stars
Apparently taking existing stories and making them speculative fiction is this guy's thing. That doesn't really work for me though, or rather, it's simply not enough to make it fantasy or make it science fiction without adding something else, something that makes the story special. We already have Frankenstein.

A Forest, or a Tree Tegan Moore
3 stars
A classic camping horror story told well.

For He Can Creep Siobhan Caroll
5 stars
A speculative fiction short in which Jeoffrey the Cat battles the Devil for that which is rightfully his—his human's soul. Cat lovers are certain to adore this tale.

Blood Is Another Word for Hunger Rivers Solomon
3 stars
The rage of young woman opens a rift to the supernatural world with unexpected consequences in a story both vicious and beautiful.

More Real Than Him Silvia Park
3 stars
An elegant and beautiful story that is also vaguely mystifying.

Seonag and the Seawolves M. Evan MacGriogair
4 stars
A haunting tale rooted in Gaelic folklore that feels both ancient and modern
