this was such a good sequel; i enjoyed it even more than book 1. the plot was so interesting and the pacing was great. it didn’t drag at all, which is usually my issue with sequels. all of the POVs were interesting and moving and the book ended perfectly. it wasn’t too nice and neat but ended with happiness and hope :’) i do feel like the climax was a bit underwhelming and i would have enjoyed more of an epilogue with reunions (frae and jack for sure), but i loved it! would def recommend! i had a lot of fun with this world and rebecca ross is good at her job!!

If I thought the characters couldn’t get any better after book one, I was wrong. I absolutely loved where this story went and how it resolved, even though the ending had me concerned for a bit.

Jack and Adaira remained adorable together, and I loved how they strengthened individually and together. I was slightly disappointed that we got less of Jack’s music in this one, but it makes sense in the grand scheme of the plot with him being in the west most of the time. Adaira faced uncertainty as to where she stood by the end of book one, and that carried throughout this book very well. I’m very pleased on how her journey progressed and how she found a place and purpose by the end.

Torin and Sidra continued to be perfect. Like Jack and Adaira, seeing the two of them grow on their own paths was amazing to watch unfold. Sidra’s emotional turmoil was heartbreaking at times, and Torin continued to learn and develop in the most emotional way, especially when he’s in the spirit realm. I can’t think of another way to describe both of them, though; “emotional” fits so well! I just wanted to give them both hugs and tell them everything will be alright.

There was one character that was introduced in this book that I don’t understand her point. Ella was a nice friend to Frae, but she didn’t really have a purpose besides walking Frae home from school and keeping her bullies away. She had no resolution and just kind of disappeared into the background.

I loved how everything connected. This wasn’t one of those books where the second book piles on new information that has no connection to the first book in order to explain and resolve the problem driving the plot. Just about everything had a purpose. This duology was so beautifully written, and I’m so happy I finally picked it up.
