“The Fairy-Tale Detectives” is a clever, fun start to Michael Buckley’s “The Sisters Grimm Series.”

This was one of my favourite middle grade series growing up and I’m so excited to revisit it as an adult to see how it holds up. The book is just as whimsical as I remembered, taking the classic fairytales and turning them on their heads.

The mystery plot of the book is still interesting and Buckley laid the foundation for the mysterious disappearance of Sabrina and Daphne’s parents in the first book, which I had forgotten. Setting up an overarching plot line made me even more excited to read the next book in the series, “The Usual Suspects.”

If you liked the TV show “Once Upon a Time” before it went off the rails, I highly recommend “The Sisters Grimm.”

I don’t know how to rate this book well as I read it for the second time, but now as an adult. I loved this series as a kid and distinctly remember reading them on vacation instead of playing in the pool. They’re a little to easy for adults but they are for children after all. I definitely enjoyed it more when I was younger but it’s good for the nostalgia.

I remembered reading this series as a kid and decided to pick them back up. It was just as enjoyable the second time around! Lots of snark and cleverly tied in fairly tales. I think I’ll read the whole series again!
