I wanted to like this. I appreciate that there were many elements changed from the original story, including the fae, for example. And I enjoyed all of the fairytales being told. Unfortunately, the writing style just wasn't for me. It was boring and non-immersive. It lacked the magic for me. The dialogue left a lot to be desired. From their interactions with Ash, I could not quite tell why
Sidhean or Kaisa fell in love with Ash.

Put me in a bit of a reading slump, unfortunately.

The story is boring, nothing actually happens. The romance could be soooo much better, it felt so dry and fake. I really don't recommend it. I was given this book by a friend that dnf it, she warned me it wasn't good and I should have listened.

This book was actually a great retelling. Some retellings I've read just swap out characters from the originals with other ones. This one doesn't do so. 'Cinderella' or Ash is like the original (becomes servant to cruel stepmother and two stepsisters). The catch: Ash DOESN'T fall in love with the prince. The prince doesn't come in until later and barely at all. Instead, Ash falls for the King's Huntress. One of the stepsisters is actually a decent human being, so that's a plus.
Edit: Now that I think about it, this book made me nostalgic for some reason(?)
[half point deduction because it could be GREAT if it were longer.]

This was alright. I thought the writing itself was quite good, but the actual plot fell flat for me. I was confused by how quickly things were resolved, I was annoyed at how much time she spent as a servant, and a lot of it didn't connect for me.
