Loved the ending. I also have a little bit of a crush on T.X. He's so intelligent and has a sense of humor. I like that he was genuinely surprised when he finally fell in love.

Much in the vein of several other stories I've read recently, this really falls more into the category of "adventure" rather than "mystery", at least for me. For one thing, the detective--while intriguing, clever, and humorous--doesn't seem to do much actual detecting, except in the very first part of the book. Oh, there are hints here and there about what he discovers, but most of it is brought to him by underlings or stumbled upon...and the final revelation is brought about by the culprit, not the detective.
It's not a bad book, though it is very sinister and requires some suspension of disbelief (as do many of the genre from this time period). It also reflects common attitudes about foreigners, which is to be expected. Still, it's not bad read, and several lines are quite beautifully written, elevating it from another "shocker" to a well-written book.
