Lovely set of lyric essays, weaving animals, humans and nature. Parenting and winter in MN. Snow days and ice dams. The spare prose is deceptive. This may be a short book, but it's deep. It looks at difficult things, tragic things, with feeling but also curiosity. And it's the thread of wonder, the flashes of love and joy, the frequent bright glints of humor, that all combine to make this feel so satisfying, though not easy. Like life, if you're attending to it.
