I've classed this as 'new adult' although the MCs are in their mid-to-late-twenties when it opens. The manufactured 'forbidden love' plot never really worked for me and I skimmed a lot.

The Aristocrat by Penelope Ward
Leo and Felicity's story
What a great book!! I was totally smitten with the MC our hero British aristocrat Leo. While he was spending the summer clearing his head from the pressures of the family business and duties, he meets neighbour Felicity, a strong, out spoken woman that he's instantly drawn to. The chemistry is real but they know when the summer is over they will have to part. Unable to fight the attraction they find themselves totally into each other until the summer ends and they must go their own ways. These characters broke my heart. They were both so real, so broken from their heartbreaking situation. Ms. Ward definitely kept my interest as she wove this tale into one of my favourite reads so far this year! The secondary characters were great too, I really enjoyed Leo's cousin Sigmund with his pompous attitude and sassy banter. I am looking forward to more from this storyline with Sig's story The Surrogate!!

Oh my heart! What a beautiful story! This book! It broke my heart multiple times!
Leo & Felicity’s love is spectacular! The trials & tribulations they have to endure was heart wrenching! But the ending... spectacular! Well done Penelope

Not what I was prepared for

You know what they say about assuming...
Penelope Ward made me look silly. With tears streaming down my face at my son's soccer practice, I was and still am wrecked.

The Aristocrat is eveything and absolutely infuriating as well. Lol. I like books that make me feel and this book will definitely invoke feelings. Anger, intense sadness, and utter devastation...profound, dizzying need...a deep confusing connection...and love, crazy unabashed love.

Oh and a hottie with a British accent...yeH, I probably need to get the audiobook ASAP for the auralgasms too.

(Side note: I want to hug Sig so badly!)

Enjoy the pain because without it we wouldn't truly know joy.

Really enjoyable little romance. Good, yet predictable, conflict.

Too much sweet talks and honest conversation, not that it’s bad but too much okay? And that was boring.

These books are becoming plain and vanilla. Why do I still read them?
